How a status is set

• Waiting — a registration (S-1) is filed and not yet effective. Active if its last document is under 180 days old, quiet if older.
• Launched — the SEC declared the registration effective (EFFECT) and an exchange listed the shares (8-A12B, CERT).
• Withdrawn — the issuer pulled the registration (RW).
• Rejected — the SEC issued an order disapproving the exchange’s listing request (19b-4) and the fund never launched.
• OTC trust — registered with the SEC and traded over the counter, not on an exchange; not an ETF.

Every status comes from public documents: registrations and their amendments in SEC EDGAR, exchange listing requests and SEC orders in the Federal Register. The list is refreshed twice every US business day.
